Portland ‘overwhelmed’ with abandoned RVs

ENSURE TRANSPARENCY. JENNIFER: PORTLAND IS REALLY TRYING TO GET A HANDLE ON THE OF HUNDREDS TRASHED RV’S SHOWING UP ON CITY STREETS, MANY WITH HOMELESS PEOPLE LIVING INSIDE. DAN: CITY LEADERS SAY THE PROBLEM IS ACTUALLY IN A ENDEMIC. OUR LISA BALICK GOOD LIE WETLANDS PARK. LISA, YOU GOT SOME ANSWERS TODAY — OUR LISA BALICK IS LIVE AT LENTS PARK. LISA, YOU GOT SOME ANSWERS TODAY FROM CITY HALL? LISA: YES, AND I FOUND THAT THERE IS AN UNWRITTEN CITY POLICY NOT TO TOW RVS WHERE PEOPLE ARE LIVING IN THEM EVEN THOUGH THE LOSSES YOU CAN’T PARK THEM OVERNIGHT ON CITY STREETS. BUT THAT MAY BE ABOUT TO CHANGE. NORA VISSER DOESN’T LIKE WHAT SHE IS SEEING. RVS LIVED IN BY HOMELESS PEOPLE, SHOWING UP BACK ON HER SOUTHEAST PORTLAND STREET. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM OVER HERE. IT WAS A SMALL TRAILER, AND THEN A BIG SECTION OF TENTS ON THE SIDEWALK. THE ENTIRE SIDEWALK WAS BLOCKED OFF. SHE — LISA: SHE TELLS ME NEIGHBORHOOD ORGANIZERS HELPED GET THE CITY TO MOVE THEM OUT AND CLEAN UP. BUT NOW THE NO PARKING SIGNS HAVE BEEN RIPPED DOWN. CAMPERS ARE COMING BACK. WE FOUND BLOCK AFTER BLOCK, FROM NORTH PORTLAND TO SAINT JOHNS TO SOUTHEAST DOZENS OF TRASHED R-VS PERMANENTLY PARKED ON CITY , STREETS. MANY ARE JUST SHELLS, OR METAL PULLED OUT, GARBAGE PILED INSIDE AND OUT, BUT MANY SHOWING SIGNS OF PEOPLE SLEEPING INSIDE, PARKING AN R.V. ON A CITY STREET OVERNIGHT IS AGAINST THE LAW. MANY HAVE A TOW STICKER ON THEM, BUT THE CITY ABANAONDED VEHICLE OFFICE TELLS ME THEY GET ALMOST A THOUSAND CALLS A WEEK TO REMOVE THEM, AND THERE IS NO PLACE TO STORE THE RVS. I ASKED CITY COMMISSIONER DAN SALZMAN, HEAD OF THE TRANSPORTATION BUREAU, IF IT’S TRUE THE CITY WON’T TOW IF SOMEONE IS LIVING INSIDE. HE SAYS THAT’S THE UNWRITTEN POLICY FOR NOW — BUT IT MAY BE ABOUT TO CHANGE. WE MAY BE ABOUT TO REVISIT THE QUESTION OF WHETHER WE TOW RVS WITH PEOPLE LIVING IN THEM. THERE ARE AGREED TO SIGNS OF — EGREGIOUS SIGNS OF HUMAN WASTE AND DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, AND WE TELL THE RESIDENTS TO GET OUT A CAUSE THE WILL GET TOWED. LISA: THE COMMISSIONER TELLS ME THE CHANGE COULD HAPPEN WITHIN A NEXT MONTH.

  1. you may thank Reaganomics for the homelessness and Reaganvilles we have seen since 1980
so, how has that trickle down theory worked out for you who endorse that brand of politics?

  2. Yeah just let the homeless take over the streets, let all foreigners into our country and let them vote and give them entitlements. Indoctrinate small children that trans genders and homosexuals are cool and that their gender is whatever they Feel like it is. Liberal Paradise. It's OVER dickwipes. Restoration of conservative and Godly values are taking place.

  3. We wouldn't have so many homeless if they would make laws forbidding rent to be so far out of control. Felons have went to prison and have PAID THEIR DUES. Stop punishing them for the rest of their lives, keeping them from getting jobs. Eliminate background checks and GET PEOPLE BACK TO FUCKING WORK ALREADY!

  4. When will you moronic, socio-commie, crunchy-granola, santuary cities realize that when you draw and then protect illegal gimmiegrants, refugees, and dregs with your copious socialist birdfeeder programs, you will attract expectant and demanding flocks of trash birds from all across the country to come home and roost. Hey says one welfare dreg in a barely working RV, "lets go to Portland and just park and beg and live free!" And so they come in droves on a national scale, descend upon Portland, and this is what you end up with!!! And it's irreparable because no one city can handle a volume of dregs on a national scale.

  5. Read the Yale article: https://law.yale.edu/system/files/area/center/schell/criminalization_of_homelessness_report_for_web_full_report.pdf

  6. This is disgusting fuck koin.com these people need shelter and the tiny bit that they do have you pieces of shit want to take that away from them. OLD NEWS BITCH you think you’re old wrinkly ass can be out trying to sleep in that cold Oregon Night Fuck out of here you and your network you all should be ashamed that you have turned you back of your brothers and sisters

  7. Solve the problem easily! Stop voting for fucking Democrats. Your Democrat leaders there have made Portland Oregon a Sanctuary City. All the worthless illegal invasionist are there gor the free stuff. Build the Wall Trump.

  8. People living! In mobile homes is the problem! Not homelessness!!! Jesus said blessed r the poor. But this world n it's governments are run by Satan! The whole society has become satanic! Hate the poor look down on them their scum, they didn't try hard enough. ancestors didn't try hard enough! They don't deserve a place to sleep and food to eat!

  9. The problem is the people who have those RVs are pigs. Most are tweakers, meth addicts, and that's why these RVs are full of garbage. People telling the homeowners to mind their own business should live by these people. 1 RV, attracts 3,then 6, and the tents on the sidewalk block access for 100-200ft or more. They leave a huge amount of garbage, and they're up most nights roaming the neighborhood, and looking for something to steal. Most of the RVs aren't registered and have no insurance. That poor woman is probably scared as hell seeing those people around all the time, its not fair to her. So anyone saying to leave these people alone, shut up, and invite those people to park in front of your house, then you can leave them alone and everyone's happy. And those RVs toilets usually dump down the sewer, or a hose directs it into the bushes. Nice smell as you can expect, and pick up their syringes, they tend to leave a few of those around. Drunks, tweakers, crack heads, own 80% of those POS RVs. Leave them alone? I'd do everything I could to get them away from me. Call the cops every single day, make them come out and tag these RVs, and drive those people away. Nothing good will happen, until the people, and those RVs are gone.

  10. the high rent put's them in the street, and these ass hole's don't want them even in the street's,well, where else can you go,the stree's,or a house.??cant go to a prk,or sewer,or roof top,WTF,,why are there ass Hole's In Office, let's kick them out of there home, and see where they go.??AND WE VOTED THOSE ASS HOLE'S IN,UGH* AND WE CAN VOTE THEM OUT.I GUESS OREAGON DONT LIKE POOR PEOPLE,BUT THEY LOVE THE RICH,THAT COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM.IT AINT RIGHT,BUT THEN AGAIN,WHAT IS ANYMORE..'' GREED''PLAIN AND SIMPLE''

  11. "Portlandia'. jesus. what a sesspool of uber-left liberalism. enjoying it?…..Idiots. Dems wrestling to 'control' and fuck up your lives…yet you still vote them in. how's all those homeless abandoned shit hole trailers left on your streets, by the 'very 'free-lovin', deadbeat burning man hippies…you stand for, working out?….

  12. Time to officially hand the city over to the homeless , junkies , and mentally ill . The city is too far gone . USA USA USA

  13. Destroyed RV s yeah…but DO NOT TOW GOOD CONDITION RV with people living inside because it’s INHUMANE …!!!!!!..🙏💝😇

  14. Believe it or not, here in Los Angeles, we had a bunch of RVs parking under an overpass here in my neighborhood, and when we called the city to take care of it, they did. Good luck sane residents of Portland…

  15. How dare those homeless people try to find a solution to their problem. Maybe that “scared” old hag should make up some sandwiches and bring them by to help her fellow man instead of crossing the street with her nose in the air. A lot of those people she’s so scared of probably fought for her freedom and now she sees them as human waste.
I get that a percentage of the homeless are drug users but a lot of them aren’t, this is when police presence can be helpful and used to weed out the bad apples.

  16. Where are the people suppose to go??? What would you do if you were on the street, and you found an RV to find sanctuary in??!

  17. Why does everyone always blame the Government then say Gov shouldn't regulate, well you want to fix the issue regulate apartment rents. There will never be enough apartment built because once built most of the rents are vary high.

  18. I'm sure there are city owned properties in Portland which could easily be made available for parking RVs. The problem is the city could not afford to accept liability for officially allowing these folks to stay in sanctioned areas. As for the abandoned RVs it should be relatively easy to put a program in place to tow them to a recycling yard. Would be costly but could surely be absorbed in the city budget.

  19. We continue to hear about Seattle and Portland becoming complete cesspools. The problem continues to grow worse and the governor won’t do anything.

  20. So if you have an unwanted RV that can't pass a State inspection and can't get rid of it by selling it, you just put it on some random street for houseless people to live in? What a great humane and cost saving idea!

  21. Portland is another west coast shithole – just like seattle, sanfran, LA now portland. Good for you guys who run such a shithole all liberal democrats, naturally.

  22. Fuck that old hag! She'll be homeless and in a nursing home where our taxes will pay. I have a heart but not for assholes.

  23. Why are people homeless I'm your city. Greedy fucks!!!! But you let illegals come there for sanctuary. Hypocrites!

  24. The homeless have never wanted to work. It's more fun and easier to sit around and get high all day. Wait for free handouts and smell like shit. Always have an excuse. I for one am not buying their excuse's anymore.

  25. Gosh Portland sucks to visit also! I avoid now when I go to the coast! I'm glad my family moved away from these liberal hell holes when I was young!

  26. What happens to people who are not in trashed RVs who are not leaving garbage or sewage and are NOT blocking sidewalks on drugs or causing a nuisance and who have no where else to go ? Maybe just low on gas and not bothering anyone . What happens to them ?

  27. When you have to earn in the top 50% TO AFFORD HOUSING. People have to make due. Government regulation and taxes are the real reason for expensive housing cost.

  28. OK that one with the bike rack was probably not a homeless camp. Was way to nice and had license plates. Plus the bike was way to nice!

  29. Why are so many RV's trashed, like they were wrecked, and how did they all get to their destination. Why are they all together? And what area's would a non trashed RV be able to park? Incomplete report.

  30. And so much more disease! And what about just taking your kids for a walk and finding hypodermic needles? SUCKS

  31. Listen people that are complaining have a home to go to. Those that need a place to lay there head when living on the street . The homeless need rites also.

  32. You’ve designed the capitalist system to generate countless homeless people. Instead of taking away the little that they have why don’t you create jobs and housing to give folks at least the modicum of dignity?! After all you are awash in capital after the last tax cut!! #CompassionateCapitalism

Hand over to me now the equivalent of one year of the Walton’s profits I’ll employ and house every single person and there’ll be no homeless problem in Portland!!

  33. technically if they're living in an RV they're not homeless their landless and poor you don't call a retired couple who decides to spend their golden years cruising around in a brand new Class A motorhome homeless do you of course not why because they have money and their motorhome looks nice but just because you don't have money and your motorhome looks like shit they want to call you home ….just think about that for a little bit

  34. WHAAAAA! some of them have just fallen into hard times and it is cheaper for your city to tow them away than it is for the owners. they can just find another just barely running one for dirt cheap, a travel permit from the dmv and your off to another spot! what will you bitching upper class do when your funds run out and your life falls into turmoil and you loose or have to sell off everything in order to survive? I know, you all are probably saying ( oh, but that would never happen to me cause I recieve social security, and/or a retirement pension ). both of which could fall dead at anytime and without what you would count on to be adequate notice. we as humans are not all the same, so when you come across struggling humans forced to abandon all hope for a dilapidated vehicle, show some human compassion. Hell, I rent a 1972 single wide mobile home that is steadily taking a dump from a slumlord money grubber who sees less fortunate others as insignificant low lifes. All I recieve to survive on is my va disability pension who at the moment hears thank you for your service who if the va funds collapse could hear instead, you lowlife dirtbag, why dont you get off your ass and get a job! I am sorry for the length of my comment but the beginning of your vid is all too real and very, very sad. one step away from a tent under a bridge! however, I applaud you for bringing reality to the self-centered snobs!

  35. Worldwide, cites are implementing ZERO parking on city streets. From Tokyo, Paris to Singapore there is ZERO street parking for vehicles without (expensive) resident parking stickers. Illegally parked vehicles are quickly towed. If required, one must park at a private garage which is secure and expensive. Its a pragmatic solution for cities overwhelmed with illegally parked vehicles. On a recent visit to Athens, Greece I was stunned to see that 30% of street parking is occupied by unregistered/abandoned vehicles—all on city property that can earn revenue but instead is filled with trash: clapped out jalopies paying zero tax or parking fees. Tow and shred the lot.

  36. The city or residents are putting those immovable destroyed RVs in residential areas to make the homeless RV problem seem worse than it really is. More merciless lawfare in government gone rogue

  37. It's a problem of Portland's own making.. they voted in the administration's that enacted the policies that lead to the problem..

  38. So move them….. establish an RV park which has an address, and put the homeless there. NO MORE HOMELESS!! Stats improve, homeless reduced, streets cleaned up. WIN WIN!!! BUT NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO you just keep on whining about it.
