More Koreans booking Seollal travel packages to nearby countries

Koreans traveling overseas for the upcoming
Lunar New Year holiday are reportedly going to countries more close by than they otherwise
might. Seollal, this year, falls on a weekend, meaning
just two days off work and school. According to travel agency Hana Tour, close
to 90 percent of customers booking package trips were headed to China, Japan or countries
in Southeast Asia. Last year Koreans got five days off for the
Seollal holiday, allowing for trips to more distant countries, but a Hana Tour official
said, with two weeks to go, the company ultimately expects to book a similar number of packages
overall. Another agency, Modu Tour, said compared to
the same period before last year’s holiday, bookings to Southeast Asia and Taiwan are
up 40 percent… and Guam is up by 50 percent.
